From the album Help Is On the Way

This in not the song made famous by Nancy Sinatra. This is a song that Dee wrote and I helped with the arrangement. And it is truer today than when we recorded it. A simple, soft song to finish out the album. The album that never was. But at least now, 3½ decades later, as crude as these recordings are, they can finally be heard.

Lyrics

Some velvet morning
When I’m dead and gone
If this world’s still turning
And children still run
Then these words will be truer
Than when my lips sung
His coming is nearer
Than when we begun

We’ve been telling for years
Of how men can be free
Some bodies grown weary
Have fallen asleep
But on rising each morning
I still hope to see
His coming is nearer
Than when we believed
His coming is nearer
Than when we believed
